Safety is a big thing in the bathroom. Far too easy to slip on things and you probably put a rug down. In fact, you probably put a rug down with rubber on the back. Good thinking. Until it’s time to wash it.
When washing these rugs, put them in the washer using only cold water. Heat will start to break down the backing and eventually it flakes off and starts to clog your washer. These rubber backed rugs don’t last forever anyway, so if you start to notice the backing coming apart, it’s probably best to replace them.
After washing, your best bet is to put the rug on a clothes line and let it air dry. Again, putting it in the heat of a dryer will melt the rubber and that will cause some big problems.
Another option when looking for a bathroom rug is to do what the remodelers do: Look beyond the bathroom aisle at the store. You’ll find many other colors and designs than the usual one color bath rugs. Just be sure to buy an inexpensive rubber slip pad to put under it. It will keep the rug in place, and keep you safe. They’re also much easier to wash and safer for your washer and dryer.
When doing a bathroom remodel, starting with a simple throw rug is a great jumping off point. Decorators often start with an area rug in a room to dictate the other colors and styles around it. Once you have a simple pallet of colors, it’s very easy to choose towels, shower curtains, and accessories.
